Do It Yourself Websites....Or Not?

The fact is, the majority of people are not computer programmers and never intended to be.  Although there may be a multitude of platforms available for DIY Web Design it is more complicated than you may think. In order to design and develop a website an individual needs to be creative, a graphic designer, well versed in editing, be an advertising and marketing guru and know the entire lingo associated with setting up their own Meta Tags.  If you are not well versed in all these areas, then a DIY website is not for you to build.  I have spent many hours “fixing” DIY websites, hence the reason I became a web designer.

As a business owner, it is essential that you be involved in the running of your website, just like you have to be involved in the running of your business.  If you work with your web designer then you can come up with an effective marketing/advertising website.

Websites must be maintained and updated regularly in order to be effective and appear on the search engines, as well as have a high “grading” in the search engine directories.  Yes, we have gone back to the school years.  Believe it or not, you are graded on your website.  In order to maintain a good “grading” there are many functions that have to be performed and that is where I come in.

My philosophy is that anyone can be taught how to maintain their own website after the initial design and implementation.  Alternatively, you can have us maintain it for you.  The needs can also vary.  Certain functions and updates can be easily performed by the business owner and other functions and updates cannot.  Your time is valuable when you are running a business and cannot justify sitting down at a computer for a couple of hours every time you need an update done.  It can become a waste of your valuable time.

A website is a key advertising/marketing “tool” that when not implemented effectively, is a waste of money.
